President Harry S. Truman's address in St. Louis at the site of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The President spoke at 3 p.m. from a platform erected on the riverfront in St. Louis. In his opening words he referred to W. Smart Symington, Chairman of the National Security Resources Board, Forrest Smith, Governor of Missouri, Joseph M. Darst, Mayor of St. Louis, and the Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, Archbishop of St. Louis. In the course of his remarks the President referred to Henri Bonnet, French Ambassador to the United States. The address was broadcast nationally, and this recording is the CBS broadcast. The park is now the site of the Gateway Arch National Park.
